My name is Brittany Domnick, established in 1989 in Southern California. I grew up in love with the CA sunshine and any sport that could make my heart race. Oh, and by the way…I am an amputee. I say that right off the bat because I don’t feel I should hide it. I’m proud of my “battle scars,” my arm is a reminder of the strength I’ve found in myself. I lost my right hand doing something I love; off-roading. January 21st, 2011 I went on a trip to Glamis, CA with a couple friends. Arriving late at night, we instantly went on a night ride, and about 3 minutes into the ride, we flipped. I didn’t think anything was wrong…but I hadn’t looked down yet. I remember holding my arm to my chest, and it was numb. The driver (who I later found out had been drinking all day) asked if we were okay, and I told him I thought my arm was broken. At that moment I looked down and realized I was looking at a handless arm. During the roll, my hand was completely severed off between the ground and roll bar. Almost bleeding to death, a member of the group, also a former Marine, took his belt off and made a tourniquet...ultimately saving my life. I spent 10 days and 7 surgeries in a hospital in Phoenix, where my hand was reattached, and after we realized it wouldn’t survive, it was removed one last time.
Living as a new amputee I realized I needed to do something to help other women who were going through the same tragedy as I was. I started working on an event that would bring confidence back into our lives. I’m in the process of beginning the [BE]autiful [YOU] Project, teaming up with DOLLPARTS to reach out to all amputee women, showing them life can go on, we can be confident and feel as beautiful as we are. I’m proud to be in such great company with DOLLPARTS, and I see a bright future ahead…for all of us.<3
